Rapper Ice Cube Leaves J-Dee Of Da Lench Mob Hanging!

Your Money Or Your Life Ice Cube Being a raptivist, a rapper that is an activist for those of you that don't know, isn't just about rapping lyrics surrounding a cause. Well for some it may be just that I am not in anyway trying to set the precedence on raptivism here. But for me raptivism is about more than just the lyrics. It is more about getting involved. It's about being on the front lines and taking real action.

Taking action can mean taking to the streets in protest or organizing protests. It can also mean partaking in conferences or being part of a campaign calling for justice or calling for revolution. Within the cause I fight, taking action can mean comforting family members of the imprisoned, their friends or loved ones, comforting the loved ones of those condemned to die by execution or the condemened themselves or, comforting murder victims family members. Taking action can also be as simple as starting a petition in behalf of a victim of an injustice. Even writing or visiting prisoners is an important part of fighting in the struggle for justice and human rights for it gives those in seemingly hopeless situations, a ray of hope.

As a raptivist I partake in all of the actions mentioned above and, I also speak out within my lyrics and in lectures. I also write articles and letters to editors and to politicians. I use every type of media source that I can to be involved and to get the people involved. Martin Luther King I believe said it best [1] "An injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere". I believe this wholeheartedly and this is why I have dedicated my life to fighting for true justice.

Though there isn't enough time in a day, week, month or even years to write, rap or talk of every injustice or miscarriage of justice, there are some certain cases I come across or that are brought to my attention that just scream out to me such as this case I am about to present here. This case to me is both an injustice and a miscarriage of justice. It was brought to my attention by activist, street poet Monte Smith who tweeted (a message on twitter.com) about a blog he had written about J-Dee of Da Lench Mob on www.streetpoetmontesmith.com.

Besides being convinced and truly believing that this is a case of injustice and a miscarriage of justice, I also see it as a case of straight up betrayal.

Da Lench Mob. I think everyone that is into hip hop has at one time or another heard of Da Lench Mob. If you haven't heard of them, you need to find out right now.

[2] Da Lench Mob came up in the 90's out of the West Coast. They were put on by O'Shea Jackson, better known as rapper, turned actor, screenwriter and producer Ice Cube, former member of the notorious west coast gangsta rap group O. G's. N.W.A. (Niggas With Attitudes).

[3] Da Lench Mob was made of three member, rappers J-Dee, Shorty and T-Bone. The first time they were ever heard was in 1990 when they debuted on Ice Cube's first solo record, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted.

[4] With Ice Cube overseeing the production, acting as executive producer, Da Lench Mob released their debut album "Guerrillas In Tha Mist" to great acceptance in 1992. They also released a video for the albums first single that was titled Guerillas In Tha Mist as well. [5] The album was a hit as was the song and the video. The song Guerrillas In Tha Mist would later appear in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

What seemed to be a promising future for Da Lench Mob came to a tragic end when key member Dasean Laron Cooper known as J-Dee was arrested and and charged with First Degree Murder.
